On Friday 20th May
2016, several members of our livestock team represented Dovecote Park at the
2016 NBA Beef Expo, held this year at the Bakewell Agricultural Centre in
Derbyshire. The Expo is widely considered one of the cornerstone events of the
British beef sector, and is described by the NBA as, ‘a celebration and exploration of everything the British beef industry has
to offer’.
Dovecote Park were among 140
companies who were represented at the trade stands, along with 21 breed
societies. The event was attended by around 8,000 people, predominantly British
beef producers, including over 100 of Dovecote Parks producers. Other visitors included a team of delegates from around Europe and farmers
from Northern Ireland.
Welsh exhibitors had an
especially good year in the exhibition ring, with Daisy Duke, a Limousin x
British Blue x heifer owned by John Williams of Gwyneddn taking home Supreme
Champion, and Hightown girl, a Limousin sired home bred heifer owned by Tecwyn
Jones of Llanwyrst taking Reserve.
Another significant competition
at the 2016 Expo was the Young Farmers Open Stock, which we were delighted to
see judged by our very own Commercial Director Laurie Ibbotson. After careful deliberation, Laurie awarded a tied
first place, shared between Alex
Birch, of Bakewell YFC and Will Rogerson, from Newton Rigg College. We were also pleased to see
The Hereford Cattle Society awarded Best Large Breed Society Stand, and the
Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society take second place, and would like to extend our
congratulations to both of these societies.
Dovecote Park were delighted
to support such a successful event, and were pleased to welcome our
producers to our stand for refreshments and the opportunity to catch up with
the team.
